Kill the Precedent has been built on exactly zero institutional funding. No grants. No corporate backing. No nonprofit endowment. One person, a laptop, and years of research that needed to exist in public — produced in the margins of a life that is also navigating the exact systems this site documents.
That is not a complaint. It is a proof of concept. And it is also a ceiling. There is a version of this work that stays where it is — free online, useful to the people who find it. And there is a version that gets into the physical world: printed and left in courthouses, handed to judges, mailed to legislators, stacked at DV shelters and social worker training days. The second version requires money. So here we are.
What the Money Goes Toward
Printing flyers and awareness materials — the newsletter manifesto, one-page summaries, awareness cards that carry the message into spaces the website never reaches. Training materials for CPS workers and judges — the briefs need to exist physically in training rooms, in three-ring binders, on desks, not just on screens. Informational packets for survivors — compiled, printed, ready to hand to someone in crisis who needs to know their rights right now. Stickers — small, visible, the kind of thing that starts a conversation. Book publication — getting Kill the Precedent from ebook to print edition to Amazon distribution. Podcast infrastructure — equipment and hosting for Let's Kill the Precedent, launching soon with Kristan T. Harris of The Rundown Live.
How to Give
Any amount. No minimum. If you want to designate it — printing, book publication, podcast — add a note when you send. More giving platforms including Ko-fi and Open Collective are coming soon for recurring support options.
If Money Isn't Available Right Now
Then don't give money. Here is what you can do instead that costs nothing and matters just as much:
Print and leave this somewhere. Download the newsletter manifesto from the resources page, print it on any printer, and put it somewhere a practitioner will find it. A courthouse. A break room. A pediatrician's office. One document reaching one professional before one decision is how this changes.
Share one post. Pick the one most relevant to someone you know and send it directly to them. Not a general share — a specific message to a specific person saying "I thought you should read this." That is more valuable than a hundred passive impressions.
Buy the ebook. The Kill the Precedent ebook is published and available now at boudicabone.gumroad.com. Every purchase funds print publication directly.
